Old Enough for Fairytales

Happy 2025, dear friends! I hope these strange, wonderful days long known as the “twelve days of Christmas” have provided you with rest, the space to consider what the past year held for you, and what it is you want to pursue, peruse, and purpose in the new year. It was a very strange advent and holiday season for me and my family, leaving me feeling rather lost for words to share or write. Sometimes, heaviness can only be felt to be worked through. As I looked back over all the lovely words and stories I was blessed to read in 2024, it struck me that most of what I read consisted of children’s literature. Worlds of adventure, coming-of-age stories, tales of queens and mysterious lands…a return, in essence, to the lessons and wonderment of childhood. As I consider this time last year, on the brink of 2024, it makes sense. I was carrying heavy burdens then…and I find myself carrying even heavier burdens now. In the midst of darkness, we need—ache for—light. When the lies of the enemy surround, we must return to truth.
